STRIKING & FIELDING

This 1/2 term we are going to be improving our striking (batting) and fielding (catching & throwing) skills. Which we will then use to play rounders and cricket. This video clip shows you very simply how to hit a rounders ball.

Want to improve your throwing technique? This video shows you how to throw longer distances with an overarm throw and pick up and throw underarm for shorter distances.

ATHLETICS

Watch this video clip of children running. It shows their technique before coaching and afterwards. Can you see what the differences are? Look at all the different parts of their body, what do you notice them doing differently?

CHEERLEADING CLUB.

DANCE

We are going to link our topic work with our dance lessons, exploring movements that link with magnets and springs. Watch this video clip of the Rambert dance company carefully. Can you see any movements that involve repelling and attracting or spring like movements? Are these movements done together or apart? Which ones do you think you could do? We will use some of these to create out own choreographies.

HOCKEY

For our next PE unit, you are going to begin to learn  some of the basics hockey skills,  that are needed to participate (join in) in a game of hockey. You will also learn about the importance of using equipment correctly and safely, so that everyone can enjoy this new experience.

At the beginning of this video clip, you can learn how to dribble the ball successfully. This is the first skill you will need to master.

Whilst you get changed we will watch this  video of some of the best goals scored in a hockey match. Watch how fast they play.

SPRING TERM - ACTIVE TIME

Over the course of this term, we are going to learn to improve our skipping skills and then try and learn a few simple jump rope tricks. This video is great for showing some of the different things you can do whilst skipping. It's a cool tune too!

SPRING TERM - GYMNASTICS

Gymnastics is a really good discipline. It requires, core strength, balance, coordination, self awareness and a lot of determination. During our lessons, we will look to develop our skills in all of these.

Watch this video, to see how children who have regularly trained, several times a week, for several years, are able to combine these skills to great effect. These are not things to have a go at yourself, they have worked hard to get to this stage. We will be looking at how we can travel across the floor and equipment in different ways and how we can improve our skills.

ACTIVE TIME - GANGNAM STYLE!

FOOTBALL

For the next few weeks we are going to be developing our football skills.
To become a really good footballer, you need to practice specific skills and learn to use both feet. It isn't enough to just play the game, although match tactics are important too.
This video clip is a good example of how a child your age has practiced his skills and is now able to use his left and right feet.

Now watch this video clip to see some different exercises to help improve your skills. Remember if you want to be a really good player or even a professional one day, you have to practice sports specific skills - lots an lots and lots! it's never enough to just play a game.

We are going to learn to play tennis at the beginning of year 3.

Here is a really good video clip that shows you lots of different things you can do at playtime or at home to help you become a tennis player! Have a go.
