NUMERACY - Creative Maths Week.

Last week, we linked our numeracy work with our topic 'Life's a beach' The children had to plan what food they wanted to have at our beach party. They then had to research online the cost of the food, making sure that they didn't over spend, as they were limited to a budget of £10.00. If they did, then  they had to decide what they would sacrifice! The next step is to see how much they can actually buy for their money. The children worked really hard, working with money and decimals, comparing prices and then using their written methods to add and subtract.

LITERACY & TOPIC

In literacy, we have been creating playscripts for our own Punch and Judy style puppet shows. We are nearly finished and are looking forward to sharing them in assembly this week. We've also made our own puppets, having learnt to use a blanket stitch.

Great sewing Jaymee.

Oops! Ben realises he's sewn his puppet to his shorts!

A big thank you to Sam Thomas who has made us our own puppet theatre. We can't wait to make use of it.

TOPIC QUESTIONS

For our final topic of the year - 'Life's a beach' we are going to plan a beach party.

The first thing we had to do was think about the questions we needed to ask in order to prepare our party, so that it will be the best party ever!

Here are our questions.

What will we eat?

What will we play?

Shall we have music and what sort?

How will we know the time and when to finish?

What do we need to wear?

Arts week - 3D model making

For arts week, we have been developing our skills of working with papier mache. The children's remit was to create a work of art using Mount Everest as their inspiration. They needed to consider what features of a mountain they would include such as glaciers, crevasses, cliff faces and base camp areas.

Here are some pictures of our class at work, having moved our classroom outdoors. Do keep an eye on the blog for the finished master pieces!
