ART - MIXING COLOURS

Today we learnt how to mix primary colours (red, yellow and blue) to make secondary colours. The children did really well with this. Next week, we will use this skill to create the right colours for woodland harvest paintings, linking our RE with our topic work.

SCIENCE - MATERIALS

One of our topic questions was - 'What would Hansel & Gretel do if they ate all the candy house?' Some of us thought that they could build their own house. So, for our topic over the next couple of weeks, we are going to explore what materials are good for building a house, and which ones aren't.

This game is good for exploring different materials and their properties. How much do you know about materials already?

NUMERACY - TOPIC EXPERIMENT

Last week, we combined our topic with developing our numeracy, science and ICT skills. We wanted to know 'What might have happened if the birds hadn't eaten the bread trail that Hansel left?' So, we needed to explore whether or not a bread trail left in the woods would get eaten. We made our predictions. Some of us thought all the bread would be eaten, others thought that the trees would hide the bread from the birds and it would remain.

In groups, we had to measure a trail 4 metres long using metre rulers and trundle wheels. We then divided a piece of bread into 8 pieces and spread them along our trails. We checked the bread every day for a week. We made bar charts on the computers to show what we found out.

WELCOME TO HANSEL & GRETEL BASE

Welcome back to school and welcome to year 3. It's a new start for all of us and there will be lots of new and exciting things to do. 
We are going to start the year with a topic called.....'Hansel & Gretel' so the first thing we need to do is get to know the story. Below are 2 links for you to hear it or read it.

 (e.g What if Hansel and Gretel ate all of the house?) We'll then try and work out what might have happened.
